Dear Chief Crawford,
Thank you for the participation of Station #1 in our 3rd grade field trip on April 19, 2013. The students (and adults) enjoyed the tour and presentation. The firefighters' interactions with them show professionalism and love of their job. We appreciate them sharing their time and talents with us!

Dear Chief Crawford,
I see the firemen and paramedics all around town and have always been impressed with their kindness and dedication. I had the unfortunate occasion of needing assistance from the ambulance service on March 23, 2013. As you know along with them came the fire truck from Station #4 at Houston Levee. I want you to know how impressed my husband and I were with all the fine men and paramedics who arrived at our home around 4:30a.m. After I passed out from a severe reaction to a pneumonia shot, my husband called 9-1-1 and within a very short time our bedroom and bathroom were filled with firefighters and paramedics who immediately took care of the situation. Their professionalism and obvious dedication to their jobs allowed us to feel comfortable and calm in our first 9-1-1 call.I personally want to thank you for the dedication and capable men who obviously know how to make people feel at ease in these stressful situations. These men made me proud to live in Collierville and just reiterated our live and support for first responders. You all have a stressful and important job and we thank you for the way in which you demonstrate your devotion and passion for taking care of the community. Please let the fireman and paramedics know how much we appreciate and admire them and how impressed we were with their service.
From Firehouse #4 (Lieutenant Bo Rutledge, Firefighter Dustin Wilburn, Firefighter/Paramedic Bobby Cannon and Driver/Paramedic Joe Casey); Rural Metro Unit # 45 (EMT Michael Welby and Paramedic Garrett Nanney)
If we can ever be of any assistance please do not hesitate to call on us!
Blessings to you all,
Selena Henson

Your guys recently responded to a 9-1-1 call we made for Brooke Cheek........she had a seizure for the first time and I was panicked to say the least! Anyways you guys responded in minutes and were awesome when on scene. I just want to thank you all for what you do.......we never realize how important you are until we need you! PS before leaving the fireman even had the presence of mind to check our stove.....which we had put in a pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving tomorrow, with all of the chaos I would have left that oven on quite certainly caused a fire! So not only did he take great care of my wife, but he also saved our apartment from burning to the ground! Please tell those folks I said thank you and I admire what you guys do!

My children and I visited the nice firefighters at the Old Byhalia Road firehouse on September 10, 2012. WREG.com did a story. Wanted to share it with you, and hope the firehouse gets to see the photo.http://wreg.com/2012/09/11/not-too-late-to-thank-first-responders-this-911/

Dear Chief Crawford:
We have been residents of Collierville since 1994 and have enjoyed all the benefits of living here. During the time before I closed my business, I had a great relationship with Fire Inspector Paul Witt and later at church until I retired.Over the course of the last couple of years, I have had to call 9-1-1 three times for chest pains. From the Dispatcher who answers the phone at 4AM in the morning to the firefighter-paramedics, the treatment I received was beyond expectations. I just wanted to compliment you and your staff for the great work. Knowing if I have an emergency I can receive help almost instantly. Nowhere else could I expect such a great response. Please than your staff for the exceptional care.
Sincerely,
Jack W Pinner

On the late evening of July 19th, my wife was moving our lawn sprinkler in our front yard in the Windsprings Subdivision off of Byhalia Road. In this simple process she performs regularly, her right ring finger end knuckle got caught in the sprinkler. She ran into the house to inform me and it was quickly obvious she was in immense pain and her fingertip was turning blue. As she cried and screamed with pain, I did my best to console her as I tried to loosen the grip the sprinkler had on her fingertip to no avail, but every move I made to loosen the sprinkler caused more pain for her and she told me she was about to faint. I loaded her and the sprinkler carefully into the car and told her I'd rush her to the emergency room at Baptist Collierville. She quickly informed me to drive her to Fire Station #3 on Peterson Lake. I did NOT argue and decided to honor her wish. The accident occurred at 9:30pm and by 9:50pm; we were at the front door of the fire station ringing the bell to what appeared to be a dark uninhabited fire station.
Quickly, there was a swarm of firefighters and EMS personnel ushering us both into the main lobby as Diana cried out in pain and embarrassment as she held the sprinkler with her finger in it close to her. The use of a simple Phillips screwdriver saved the day and freed up her finger within a couple of minutes. We feel so grateful for the five folks that came to our aid that night and we'd like to personally commend their efforts and the most professional and helpful way all five of these folks helped us. We came away from that visit deeply appreciating our fire department and EMS personnel here in Collierville. We could not imagine such a high-level of courtesy, willingness, and professionalism that was displayed to us that evening.
The folks involved were Lieutenant-Paramedic Mike Sansone, Driver-Engineer Ronnie Dunigan, Firefighter-Paramedic Jeff Segerson (Engine 83-B) and Paramedic Amanda Payne and EMT Garrett Nanney (Rural Metro 31). Driver Dunigan took Diana's vitals early on and noticed Diana's blood pressure was abnormally high; he asked for us to remain for another fifteen minutes and took another set of vitals to verify she was settling down and made sure the fingertip was improving a bit. We can't get over how caring and professional we were treated and want you to know that we're so very thankful and proud of them for their service to us personally and to the community. We both felt our treatment by these folks was well above and beyond anything we would have expected. Please pass along our sincere thank-you's we're sharing today. We appreciate all of them and our town for carrying out such a fine image in these endeavors.
Kindest Personal Regards,
Jim & Diana Borm

On Friday June 22nd around 3:30pm give or take, I had to make my first 9-1-1 call. My 3 year old son Caleb got his finger caught in a bike chain. The firemen got here so fast, I'm pretty sure it was only 3 minutes from the time I called to when they arrived. Not only that, but they were absolutely wonderful with my son, and wonderful with me, keeping me calm and even offering a joke here and there to make me smile. I wish I had gotten the names of who came, but in the whirlwind of everything going on, I didn't. I just wanted to say thank you for how fast they arrived, how quickly they got my son's finger out of the bike, how they treated his finger after, and for how great they were with us. So thank you all very much from the bottom of our hearts for everything that you all do, and a huge thank you to the men that were with us that day! :)
Sincerely,
Christina Dietzen

Dear Chief Crawford,
I would like you to know your firefighters at Firehouse #4 (Lieutenant Bo Rutledge, Firefighter/Paramedic Bobby Cannon, Firefighter Dustin Wilburn, Driver/Paramedic Joe Casey) are very talented, caring and mannerable. My daughter and I went to them to see if they could help with getting a ring off her finger. We live in Germantown, but were going to my nephews' home in Collierville. They were very gentle with try to get the ring off. It took awhile and I didn't want to take their time, but they insisted and got it off.
Sincerely,
Martha R. Scott

I want to thank the paramedic service in getting me to Baptist Memphis Hospital on February 24, 2012 so quickly. It literally saved my life, and after three weeks at the Memphis Jewish Home, I will be going home this Wednesday. I've said all along, Collierville is the garden spot of the county.
Thank You So Much!

I would like to thank the fire department on there response to a call where a car flipped in the back parking lot of Collierville Elementary. My daughter was in the accident and is ok. You were all very comforting to her and took great care of her. Please pass this along to whomever was there from the FD and also the EMT is you know who it was. We are grateful for your hard work taking care of the community.

Chief Crawford,
All me to introduce myself, my name is Roger Reed and I am a Captain at Monterey Fire Department in Monterey, California. I had occasion to visit your Station #1 on New Years' Day while visiting my son who has moved into your community. The on-duty personnel, Driver/Paramedic Eric Hardaway, FF Lisa Smithmier and FF Keith Garrison warmly greeted my family and proceeded to give us the "grand tour" of your station. They were extremely courteous and professional in their actions and reflected the highest standards expected of members of the Fire Service Community. To paraphrase Monterey Fire Department's Vision Statement, they Exceeded the Expectation of those they serve. Chief Crawford, they did you proud! Please pass my thanks to Eric, Lisa and Keith for an entirely enjoyable visit and I would like to extend an open invitation to you and all your personnel to visit Monterey Fire Department if you are in the area. "Duty & Responsibility" Make EVERYDAY a training day...so that EVERYONE GOES HOME

Dear Fire Department,
I wish to thank the Fire & Rescue Department of Collierville for their recent rescue of my mishap at the Kroger gas pumps. Help arrived within minutes and washed the gasoline out of my eyes with saline solution. I wish to especially thank the firefighter who administered to me. His knowledge and manner was so very reassuring. Please find enclosed a small token of my appreciation.
Sincerely,

I would like to express my sincere gratitude for one of your personnel. First off my name is Chris Gaines, I graduated Collierville High School in 1997 and moved to Malvern Arkansas where I currently hold the rank of Lieutenant in the Malvern F.D. IAFF L2276. My wife and son are visiting our families in your town this week and recently ran into some of your staff in a local restaurant. My wife advised me there were three personnel seated in uniform and she approached them asking about a fire pole after my son recognized they were firemen by their uniforms. She discussed with them that my son would like to see a fire pole due to us not having one. Chief Crawford advised her where she could find one to see and to tell the firemen that he sent her. He did all of this before learning about my job. This truly shows the professionalism needed in todays fire service that we are at times losing. You should be proud of your firefighters if they show support and professionalism like Chief Crawford did to my family. I have always advised my wife and son if they need help in any town to find a local fire department for at least direction to help. I have always worried they might find a firehouse of unprofessional individuals such as some I have personally come across but it is nice to know our hometown department is there to help when needed. Once again thanks to Chief Crawford for his small act of courtesy that will forever remind my 5 year old son the way all firemen should act and truly shows the Brotherhood of the fire service.
Sincerely,
Chris E. Gaines, Lieutenant
Malvern Fire Department

My elderly parents live in town, unfortunately, there have been several occasions that we have needed the services of the fire department. Wednesday, June 1st at approximately 7pm was the last time. I would like you to know how proud you should be of them. The compassion that they showed my father is beyond expectation. They each have a very different personality, which provides for a perfect mix. This is the nicest, most professional group of men and women. Collierville can be very proud of them.
Thank You,

Our family wanted to take this time to express our heartfelt appreciation for the quick response and care given to Chris Walden, Sunday May 22nd on Hwy 385 near the Piperton exit. Everyone was so helpful and caring. We were all in a state of shock when we got there and you helped us to stay calm while you took care of him in the pouring rain without a complaint. Chris is improving, he has a small subdural hematoma, he fractured several ribs and his shoulder blade, multiple cuts and bruises (well over 100 stitches), and he'll be in a neck brace for at least a month. Considering the accident and the condition of his car he is so blessed not to have sustained other injuries. There were 2 people who stopped to help Chris that afternoon, we are so sorry we don't know their names but we want to say thank you to each of them from the bottom of our hearts. I certainly hope the citizens of Collierville know how fortunate we are to have professionals like you that will be there to help in any emergency.
May God bless each of you.

Collierville Fire & Rescue,
I wanted to thank your team for the kindness, care and concern. On Saturday, April 2nd, they came to my rescue when I had taken a bad fall on Poppy Hills Drive. I appreciate all they did; their quick response, their attitudes, their words of encouragement and them being there for me. You do a great service for our community, and are appreciated.
Thank You,

Mayor Joyner and Chief Crawford,
I'm Tanner Sebren's grandfather. I was present when Tanner was injured Friday. I was impressed by the quick response by paramedics, their competence, and their evident concern for Tanner. I have been singing their praises as I have related the incident to friends and family. It was not easy to remain calm while Tanner was in pain, with the potential of serious injury. But it was obvious he was in good hands which made it easier to have faith he would be alright. Your guys communicated well and they took the time to reassure me that they thought he would be okay. As a coach I have seen many injuries, some very serious. Once, when I was coaching track, one of my girls fell and injured her neck. We were at ECS. It took 35 minutes for first responders to arrive. Your people were on site within 4-5 minutes. Amazing and very appreciated.
Thank you Mayor Joyner and Chief Crawford for providing such great protection and service.

Hello Mayor Joyner and Chief Crawford,
Usually when we talk it's about big picture emergency preparedness and planning, but this is about an injury that occurred last Friday at a Lacrosse game at Collierville High against St. Benedict. There was a potentially serious neck injury and concussion that warranted helicopter medevac from the scene. Your firefighters quickly identified some limited paralysis, immediately immobilized the injured player, and started I.V's. Thanks to the efforts of your staff, the partial paralysis was apparently short-lived and the boy is making a quick recovery after a weekend of tests and observations at the hospital. The recovery is a testament to the rapid, conscientious, and high quality care your staff provide Collierville residents, and visitors, on a daily basis. All the parents realized how easily it could have been our son laying motionless on the field that cold spring afternoon, so I wanted to personally say thanks and good work.

Dear Chief Crawford,
We will be delivering a tray of cookies and brownies to each of our firehouses this evening in honor of the excellent service provided to us by your fire personnel on the morning of 15 December 2010. We know that they represent so well all of the members of the Collierville Fire Department and we would like to extend our appreciation to you in their behalf. I was privileged to have served as a Navy fighter pilot for 21 years during which I flew 154 combat missions over North Vietnam and ultimately commanded an F-14 squadron. This career afforded us the opportunity to work with the very finest Americans under conditions that were almost constantly in extremis and we learned to quickly and accurately assess the expectations for standards of performance from those in the service of our nation and of our community were elevated commensurate with those of the military personnel with whom we served. We believe strongly in a robust work ethic, highly skilled performance, dedication to duty, courage and professionalism to the highest degree. There can be no question that these are the keys to success in an environment characterized by danger and by the need for immediacy of response. We have observed all of the traits in Firefighters and Paramedics of our Collierville Fire Department and particularly in the team that responded to our emergency call that morning in December. I have a prosthetic knee and was instructed by my orthopedic surgeon to avoid falling as best I could preclude very serious consequences. Being a typical Navy fighter pilot, I ignored his warning, slipped on an icy step, fell down on my hell and hyperextended my knee well beyond its designed flexion limits. I literally shredded every tendon, nerve and muscle that could possibly be destroyed by such an accident. Although I have a very high capacity for pain, this situation approached my limit. After I had dragged myself back into the house, my wife called 9-1-1 and within minutes, I was looking up at the faces of Collierville's best. The extraordinary care and genuine concern for me that followed was extremely welcome and reassuring. The simple fact that they so readily and competently maneuvered my substantial body out of the house and into the ambulance was beyond amazing. My only complaint might be I did not rate a "sireeeen", as we called that wondrous wailing sound in Georgia where I was raised, but I quickly forgot about that chance to revisit my childhood as we exchanged jokes on the way to the ER. My care giving escorts were experts in distracting my attention away from the pain from my injury as they quickly and efficiently transported me. What more could one ask than that? My wife and I would like for all of you to understand how tall you stand with us. With our express appreciation to Ladder 85's crew (Lieutenant Joe Billings, Driver/Paramedic Tommy Patrick, Firefighter/Paramedic Derek Smith, Firefighter Lisa Zimmer), as well as Rural Metro Unit 45's crew (Paramedic Jason Akins and EMT Anthony Thornton) for their rapid response and service to our family, we would like to thank every member of the Collierville Fire Department. You are all very special to us.
Very respectfully yours,
Emory and Carolyn Brown

Dear Chief Crawford,
Your department has been of service to me on more than one occasion, most recently in the spring of this year. I wanted to mention especially the firefighters who came to my home. Lieutenant William Boone, Driver/Paramedic Johnny Campbell, Firefighter Clay Blair and Firefighter Randall Shive. Each time they could not have been nicer or more professional in their work. We in Collierville are fortunate to have such dedicated firefighters who serve here. I am very grateful for them.

When a child is down, is there a more comforting sound than Collierville Fire & Rescue getting closer... or the sight of calm, professional, efficient and reassuring care? Thank you for your unique requirement that every 9-1-1 call (100%) has a PARAMEDIC on board. More specifically, to Engine 81's crew (Lieutenant/Paramedic Pat McGrath, Driver/Engineer Jay Waycaster and Firefighter/Paramedic Kean Anthony) and Battalion Chief Daniel McPeake, who responded this past Sunday evening.
In Collierville, we're blessed with the best!

To The Collierville Firefighters:
Words seem inadequate to express our sincere thanks and appreciation for the work you do every day; and in particular, wee are so grateful for the tremendous effort your team demonstrated in the early morning hours of August 1, 2010. While you fought a dangerously hot fire at the home of a adjacent neighbor, you kept our home from catching on fire. YOU SAVED OUR HOME! We tell everyone that asks about the fire that the Collierville Firefighters saved our house. We want everyone to know how lucky each family in Collierville is to have exemplary individuals serving the community. The conditions were difficult, but each firefighter worked with precision to get the fire out and keep our neighbor's house from burning to the ground. As a small token of our appreciation to each of you; we would like to donate a Toshiba 46" HG Flat TV for everyone at Firehouse #5 to enjoy. While we realize that there were many firefighters on the scene that morning, firehouse #5 is "OUR" neighborhood firehouse and the first to arrive in a matter of minutes.Again, we thank you for putting your life on the line with each shift you work. You are true heroes for us and all of the Woodlawn Village.
Best Regards,
Carey and Judy Parsons

Dear Sirs:
On August 22, 2010, I had my first encounter with 9-1-1 service in Collierville, My sister was unresponsive when I called and when I tried to get her to the door of her apartment. The only way we could get in was to call 9-1-1 and have the police and fire dispatched.First on the scene was Police Officers Charlie Jones and Patrick Addison. Once they assessed the situation, they acted immediately to kick the door in and located my sister. My sister was found lying in the bathtub where she had been since the evening before. She has no memory of how she got there or exactly when she "blacked-out". The only thing she remembers was putting a pizza in her oven at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. The pizza was still in the oven, charred, the oven still on, but apparently timed out. The following firemen responded to the 9-1-1 call: Lieutenant-Paramedic Joe Lee Rape, Driver-Engineer Dustin Johnson, Firefighter Keith Garrison and Firefighter Chad Wilburn. They came in and immediately set about making my sister comfortable, taking vitals, cleaning her up and transporting her to Baptist Collierville. My sister is 84 years old lady with high blood pressure and diabetes. After my sister was sent to the hospital, the firemen wanted to check and see why the smoke detectors did not sound. It was determined the hall smoke detector was defective and both bedroom detectors needed batteries. I am told it is the apartment management's responsibility. All three smoke detectors were more than ten years old and should be replaced. The leasing manager was called to the apartment and given this information to pass to the management company. These men went above and beyond the call of duty. I cannot adequately express my sincere appreciate for all they did for my sister. Please convey my thanks to them for a job well done. I will sing the praises of Collierville's police and fire departments.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Jerry Bullock
